SGD $126K for a McDonald's Singing Bone Hello Kitty?

Are you among these people who queued for yesterday's McDonald Fairy Tale Series Limited Edition, The Singing Bone Hello Kitty?  It was said that some people queue as early as 7pm?!! for fear that this limited edition Kitty will be sold out if they come just as the clock strikes twelve.

Few years back, you'll probably find me among the crowd queuing for these Hello Kitty.  Not that I no longer fancy these no mouth kitties, but rather, I've outgrown myself with the willpower to resist such temptation.  I don't deny, I still buy Hello Kitty, but no more such craze as time is too precious for me which I can put into better use.

When I was on my way back to Singapore from Johor this afternoon, I saw this shocking news on my Facebook timeline.  Someone actually bidded for The Singing Bone Hello Kitty at SGD 126,000.00??!!  This is simply unbeliveable!

I don't deny, back in year 2000, when McDonald first launch the wedding Hello Kitty set, I actually tempted to sell the kitties at a profit.  So what drives me to do that?
  • I spend long hours to queue for the Hello Kitty, whether I buy 1 set or 2 sets, I still need to queue for this amount of long hours, might as well queue for extra sets.
  • The Hello Kitty cannot just be purchase over the counter but need to buy set meal before I get to buy the kitties.T o get a couple, I actually need to get min.2 which ended as both my breakfast and lunch. I wanted to recover these costs! But never did I thought of selling one beyond hundreds, let alone 126K!
  • Given the hours spent queuing for the Hello Kitty, I wanted to make my queue more worthwhile with some money earned.
In the end, did I sell? Nope, I actually give away or sell at cost price to friends who couldn't get a set.

Franky speaking, who in his proper state of mind will pay such a hefty sum of money just for a plushy toy?  Definitely not me!  Many find the bidder fictitious and believe that this is a tactic to push up the value of this limited edition Hello Kitty to sky high prices.

And this is not all, there are more eBay listings around, and one of this actually start with a start bid price of SGD 10,000,000.00!  OMG, did my eyes play tricked on me?

SGD 10 million dollars!!!  Who in the hell will pay for this amount???  I might as well spend a few hundred dollars or thousand dollars to engage someone to buy for me if I can jolly afford this amount. The balance can be pumped into property investments, a tour for the family and maybe some amount for charity.

It's alright to be in the Hello Kitty craze, however, never get caught as a fool to pay for such absurd amount when you can actually get one at RMB $35.00 at Taobao!  Even after paying for shipping fees and agent fees, if any, it still cost you less than SGD15.00 each!  And best of all you don't even need to queue for it!

Here's something for your *evil* laughter to end your week, haha!

Food Review: Tott Bistro at Sime Darby Centre

The ToTT Bistro is located in the ToTT Store, which offers one stop service for foodies who would love to pick up some cooking or cooking skills, shop for dining and kitchenware products, and get some comfort food designed by its consultant, Chef Sam Leong

Was invited by OpenRice to a food tasting at the ToTT Bistro, where new dishes are developed by its new resident Chef, Chef Clarence Chong, who has 30 years of experience in various hotels.

The ToTT Bistro is of the clean and chic interior.  Without fanciful decoration, yet it is a cozy place for dining together with family or friends.

Esprit (S$3.80)
The Esprit range of soft drinks combines the refreshing taste of real fruit with soda, flavours available are: Passion fruit, Raspberry, Orange Tangerine and Lemon Lime. I tried the raspberry flavour, which is rather refreshing. What I like is about the Esprit is, unlike usual carbonated soda, it is less fizzy and more of a sparkling drink. Most importantly, it is less sweet as compared to other carbonated drinks.
Truffle Fries with Duo Dips (S$7.90)
The fries is served with mayonnaise and chilli sauce to enhance the taste. The fries is delectable with truffle oil yet not too oily, however, I'll prefer to be more crispy though.
Oriental Pizza (S$12.90)
With bonito flakes, seaweed, sesame seeds as toppings and teriyaki sauce as the condiment, the oriental pizza is pretty much like a Japanese Style Pan Pizza, except for its pizza dough is more dense and crispier than other Pan pizzas. The most distinguishable about the pizza is probably the spinach topping which we rarely see.
Fish Fingers with Wasabi Mayonnaise (S$7.90)
The fish finger is rather crispy but I personally finds it a bit too dry. In additional, I wish for a bigger mouthful of the fish fillet. I've never like Wasabi, however, the Wasabi Mayonnaise is still acceptable to me, as luckily, the taste of the Wasabi is not overpowering.

Chicken Ramen (S$12.90)
The ramen has been chopped to short length for easy consumption, which is very kid's friendly. The soup broth is flavoursome yet not over powering. The marinated soft boiled egg, though tasteful, is a bit disappointing as I'll prefer it to be more runny like those in traditional Japanese restaurant, and I personally find it a bit too salty.

Tempura Mango (S$3.00)
While I like the battered of the Tempura Mango thin and crispy, I find it a bit too oily, where traces of oil can be found over the plate. The mango filling, tasted more of powdered mango due to the extremely creamy taste, generally still taste good, but I certainly hope that traces of mango puree can be found in the filling which will make it more divine!

And of course, we can't end the session without a group photo.
Generally, the dining experience at the ToTT Bistro is good.  Though there isn't much variety of food on the menu, there is still a good mix of Asian and Western fare, which are reasonably priced and affordable.

When the Ex-es gets together on The Ex-Factor at Power 98FM

Couples within the same office is often a taboo, but what happens when 2 Ex-es meets at work?  First of it's kind in Singapore, Mister Young, will be starting a brand new evening program from 10th June 2013, 'The Ex-Factor' together with his Ex!  You probably be shocked that this is actually proposed by Mister Young himself.
Together with a group of bloggers, I had the privilege to unveil the mysterious Ex of Mister Young...
She is none other than previous host of 987FM whom hosted 'Say It With Music' - Jacqui Thibodeaux.

Grace, Jayne, Charleen, Ben, Smith, Darren Sim and NinjaGirlSg together with Shareen Wong, Mister Young & Jacqui from Power 98FM.
You probably wonder, if Ex-es can still remain as friends after a break up and keep their heads cool? Wouldn't it be awkward to come face to face almost every evening for a straight 3 hours? What if there comes a dispute? What if... These are also some of the initial concerns of the station Program Manager, Ms. Shareen Wong.

However, upon seeing Jacqui in person, Shareen realised that that her concerns are dispensable after all. The Ex-es are quirky and with real great chemistry. So even if they really attempt to bicker on air, the program will most likely turn out to be entertaining and adds on to more sparks!

Frankly speaking, it's really hard to believe the 2 are now ex-couple instead of current duo as the sparks between them are truly awesome and I secretly wish that the love between the 2 will rekindle after hosting the program for some time.

Other than face-to face session, some of us get to experience stimulated recording sessions together with the 2 hosts, this allows us to have a better understanding how the recording of of radio program goes.

What to Expect?
Other than the unorthodox conversation, expect to "meet" the couple in the roles of Bee Geok & Geok Bee, of typical Singaporeans that LOVE good bargains, good food, queueing for great deals and who are well travelled, where you can pick up a tip or two of good lobangs, good food and travelling tips from them!  There will be weekly challenges where the 2 Ex-es compete among each other to prove themselves as the better Ex!
When does 'The Ex-Factor' premiers?
Tune in to Power 98FM from 10th June 2013, every Monday - Friday, 5-8pm.
